I may have got away with the Embassy fee this time but they'll get more money out of me again soon. My passport ran out in January 07 & we went to Kenya in November 06 which required you have at least 6 months left in your passport, so I had to pay 1320kr for a new passport & then I have to amend it after the wedding due to name change, which will cost another 1100kr compared to just £45 (620kr) in the UK Can't believe how much extra it all costs if you get it from the embassy compared to in the UK. I did look into sending passport off from the UK & getting it posted back to my mums address, but it would have been illegal as i'm not resident there at the moment!!

How did Tree trick you into the solitaire ring? And what's the story with the tooth

    Taken from Embassy link

British Citizens Getting Married in Sweden

To be able to marry in Sweden there should be no impediment to your marriage according to Swedish law.
A certificate that confirms this can be ordered from Skatteverket, if you have lived in Sweden for more than two years. When the wedding has taken place, the registrar (vigselförrättare) informs the tax authorities, Skatteverket.

Tree, glad you were pleased with the underskirt & yes you'll definately need help from someone. Tried to do it all myself a few weeks ago & gave up. Luckily one of my bridesmaids was visiting us two weeks ago so she helped me

No more chocolate for your M2B then Nuärdetdags! Not until after the wedding at least Glad you decided on the solitaire ring, there's not so many Swedish women with them I've noticed & that way you cater for both cultures, although I'm sure English people will assume your wedding ring is your engagement ring

I think going to the loo will be easier with an underskirt. I'm hoping you can kind of lift the hoop over the top of the toilet, like a tent effect & ta da do your business. Was a bridesmaid last year & two of us had to go in with the bride to lift her dress up when she needed to loo. Not very graceful but we've all been friends since we were 12 (We had a laugh)

Tree do you have a picture of this humungous dress you're going to wear.I'm intrigued now! Would be nice to see what all of your dresses look like actually

  • Speckledust

I love your dress! I always dreamed of a dress like yours actually, but when my M2B proposed & I started looking at dresses I decided on a lilac one, this narrowed the choice of dresses quite drastically but I finally found one in America & I'm happy with my choice , a little different anyway www.thebridalshop.com/Forever_Yours/35214.htm

M2B's aunty has made a lilac veil to go with it too

    Wedding ceremony program is correct

What colour will your bridemaids be wearing too? Mine will have a paler shade of lilac. I know you don't generally have the bridesmaids wearing the same colour as the bride but I've already broke tradition by not wearing white

  • Speckledust

Ah that's right in Sweden the bridemaids buy their own dresses don't they! I think this is quite a good idea as you can then choose something you like & would possibly wear again. Tradition in the UK is that the the bride & groom take this cost & choose the dresses, normally all matching. My sister decided what dresses they would wear so I didn't have to faff around deciding, I just had to hand over the credit card

Yes Tree my English is getting really really bad these days & it's so spooky when you want say a word & it comes out as the Swedish word instead of the English. I seem to always struggle with almond & always say mandel when speaking in english, so embarrassing when you can't even speak in your native tongue!!

Wow you're dress is gorgeous too, fairytale like, I can see why you need the big underskirt Bridesmaid dresses are lovely too!

    Hi ladies,

What grotty weather here in Stockholm today! I'm hoping it's a bit better in the UK as we're flying there tonight for the weekend!

So Nuärdetdags are you all set for next Saturday? Feeling nervous yet? Will you be going on your honeymoon straight away or will you wait a few days/weeks? Your last weekend as an unmarried lady! Hope you enjoy it

We had a meeting with the guy in charge of the location where we are marrying & having the reception & now we start encountering the problems Having trouble with the wedding cake at the moment. They won't allow us to bring our own cake, which H2B's mum is making in the UK. She makes wedding cakes & we've already planned it all. We've told them that no matter what we will be bringing our own cake! We've decided to keep the cake that they include in the package & we'll serve our own cake ourselves, so we'll have 2 cakes instead of one Also need to talk to the priest now as the guy co-ordinating everything assumed we were members of the Swedish church, or rather thought we belonged to the church of England, which we don't, so it looks like we'll have to book a borgerlig service instead now. In the UK it's not a problem to get married in a church if you are not a member of the church, but here it seems to be a big no, no. Not a problem at all for us to have a borgerlig service but it's something we need to re-arrange ASAP, as priest was already booked!!

What problems have you others encountered so far?
