    Hi saragran and welcome!

My husband has been here in Sweden now for 1 year and 10 days. His Swedish vocabulary consists of maybe 30 words but he is getting better and better on picking up what is being talked about, not what is being said though.

Well, but he has not put too much effort in learning the language. Everyone just loves practicing his English on him, TV is in English, he only work with English customers,... I am sure yoru husband will be fine here!

tree: Good luck with finding a new photographer! Seem as if you have got some options already!

saragran: Depending on what your h2b is working with, mine might be in an easier situation. He runs his own online marketing company from home and only work with English customers so...

A lot of times we have encouraged people to speak Swdedish to him (the dentist, the postman, the butcher,...) - they all refuse, they probably have so much more fun speaking English.

Ah, and no, I am probably the only one in Sweden in this thread that is not living in Stockholm. Grums, near Karlstad.

Pressbyrån normally have English papers. Everytime we go into town J gets the Sun or Daily Sun (please don't judge him by the quality of this - in my opinion - crap ). They are usually one day old. When he has the papers we 'have to' go to either the English or the Irish pub and we 'have to' have one (or more) pints....

Is a bit like our Emmerdale routine.

saragran: Here media/sales/advertising is Swenglish anyway! I just had a marketing translation on the desk in which I had to leave English words like 'crazy' and 'happy hour' in between the Swedish text.

    He will be fine!

Oh, yes, the English shop in Stockholm (thanks again for the tip, tree )! My husband went absolutely nuts in there! Expensive, yes, but what are you supposed to do if you NEEEED that (smelly) mint sauce and proper salt & vinegar crisps and you look into the sparkling eyes of a six year old in the body of a 33 year old man, jumping up and down - in public?! :D

Emmerdale, yes. We both work from home so it has become an institution to have a lunch break at 12:25, to watch Emmerdale and have a snack. Well, we are still, I think, 2 years or more behind England so J has seen most of it (or read about it in one of his newspapers ).

saragran: If your h2b has not been in Sweden for more than 2 years when you get married you have to go to the embassy in Stockholm to get that strange confirmation from the Queen (can't remember the word). We had to do that....

  • Mrs. 170307

Oh, and thanks for the link!! Will see what kind of surprise package I can put together for J!

  • Mrs. 170307

saragran: Yes, you don't need to leave Sweden for that, you just need to visit English ground in Sweden (the embassy in Stockholm). Takes 23 days for that paper to come, after you have applied for it and it costs 1300 SEK. At the embassy they say themselves that it is an ancient, useless law but well, if the Queen calls you have to follow.

Oh, J was by the way really upset about the fact that there is NO picture of the Queen in the embassy...

Well, if I was a Lady I would like to be approached like that - but I am proud enough to have reached status 'Mrs'.

I JUST (some minute ago) sent away an order to the britishcornershop! I am so excited - my plan is to keep it secret until the parcel arrives. I ordered all his favourite stuff: the smelly mint sauce, choclate, tea, salt 6 vineagr crisps, gravy,... he is going to be soooooooo excited - and if possible, love me even more! Do you know how long the delivery takes?
